PVA return with new track “Untethered”

PVA have returned with their first new music since their 2020 debut EP Toner. The new single comes with a self-directed minimalistic music video.

The multiplying groove of the synthesisers feel like they could burst out at any moment. Constantly twisting and turning, almost trying to escape for a sound of their own. But it’s all held together with Ella Harris’ cool and composed vocal delivery. It’s industrial indie at its most freeing, making you want to grab your florescent mini-pouches and throw your body in every direction.

Speaking on the single, the band says, “Untethered is a song about release. It’s our current set opener and an introduction to our industrial arm. We wrote it in one session in a burst of chaotic catharsis. The lyrics follow a character being freed from imaginary tethers and experiencing the earth under their feet again.”

The band have also announced a new live date in London headline show to take place at Corsica Studios on 9th July. Tickets will only be available on pre-sale via the PVA mailing list until 11am on Friday, which people can sign up to via PVA.band. General sale will then be available HERE.

MYtbe releases new single “Moody”

South London-based singer MYTBE has shared “moody”, her first new music since last years spill out EP. Not only is the sound of just her vocals and guitar about as intimate as you can get, but her storytelling shares an incredible amount deep emotions as she details how infatuation can often lead to pain. “Call me darling / I know i’m starving for us / Undertow and overflowing with love, real love / It’s too much” she sings with a deep reluctance, knowing that soon this short-lived serenade must come to pass.

Speaking about the track, she said:

“‘moody’ is about the human instinct of wanting to be loved, no matter the circumstance. Craving another’s affection; be it right or wrong. Ignoring all sense and your better judgement, to instead bask in the rose-tinted euphoria of new romance. I wrote this song about a recent brief romance, one which both parties both knew wasn’t going to last forever. Although the end was in sight, I still found myself drunk on affection and willing to overlook the red flags. Inspired by these feelings of blindsidedness, I was keen to capture the foolish notion of loving carelessly.

TV Priest release new single “It Was Beautiful”

TV Priest have today shared “It Was Beautiful“, the latest single from their upcoming sophomore album My Other People, set to be released via Sub Pop on June 17th. Pre-order here.

Vocalist Charlie Drinkwater says of the single:

‘It Was Beautiful’ is a love song about the past, present, and future. A reminder that love is the most essential thing. The words came fast; it was recorded in a single emotive session, the first song we wrote together after my family had gone through a difficult experience and I think you can hear that in the kind of melancholy euphoria that plays out as the song progresses. In some ways it’s a coda to the whole album; a reminder to guard your hope fiercely.”

Ruby Gill shares new single “Public Panic Attacks”

South African-Australian musician and writer Ruby Gill has shared a new single, “Public Panic Attacks“, which follows on from “Champion Ruby” released in April.

Gill’s straight to the point storytelling drives this track, as with all of her songs, as she details her distress before driving. The raw nature to both Gill’s vocals and instrumentation allow this song exist in its truest form, feeling as though you’re witnessing Gill feel these emotions for the first time. “It has to stop” she exclaims as the track comes to close, but the brilliance of this track leaves you ready for more of what she’s got to come.

On writing the track, Gill said that she was having a full-blown panic attack in a public parking lot when she thought to herself, “interesting – this is not the first time I’ve had a panic attack in a public parking lot. I had to start figuring out exactly why I kept freaking out and how to make it stop.”

Art moore announce debut album and share new single

Art Moore, the supergroup of Boy Scout’s Taylor Vick and Ezra Furman collaborators Sam Durkes and Trevor Brooks have announced their debut album Art Moore, set to be released on August 5th via ANTI-Records. Pre-order here. The announcment also comes alongside the release of “Muscle Memory”, the second single from the album following on from “Snowy” released earlier in the year.

Listen to new single “Muscle Memory” below!

Speaking about the track the band said:

“Muscle Memory was inspired by the many phases of life we go through and the friendships that exist within them that inevitably transform as we continue through life,” Vick explains. “I wanted to write about this experience from a neutral perspective, one with the belief that it’s neither a good or bad thing but simply a given in life. It’s a more fictionalized version of my personal experience which was the kind of writing I gravitated towards most in this band.”

A press release said of the album:

“The ten tracks that comprise the record are deft character studies, zeroing in on restless widows, shy beginners, jilted friends and friendly exes, chronicling minute moments — road trips, casual dates, games of truth or dare — with rich detail and subtle wit. The result is a world of remarkable emotional complexity, an album-length study of loneliness, heartache, and loss that’s sweet but never saccharine, sad but never maudlin. Featuring the inimitable songwriting of beloved Oakland luminary Taylor Vick of Boy Scouts set in sharp relief against lush production from Ezra Furman collaborators Sam Durkes and Trevor Brooks, it’s a quietly wondrous record — a set of songs that sketch out the struggle and beauty of coping with everyday life”

Witch Fever announce debut album ‘Congregation’, share lead single

Witch Fever have today announced Congregation, their debut album, which is set to be released on October 21st via Sony’s Music For Nations. Pre-order here. The announcement also comes alongside the release of the title track “Congregation” and an accompanying music video.

Listen to the new single below!

Speaking about the album lead singer Amy Walpole said;

“As our first album we’re really excited to just get it out there. We feel that it’s a step above what we’ve done before as we had a chance to experiment with sound and structure. It was our first opportunity to explore writing a body of work which was challenging but has been so rewarding! It pushed our creative process because we also had to think about the songs sitting side by side on an album! We tried to break out of what makes a typical ‘witch fever’ song whilst still being true to what makes our sound what it is.”

A press release said about the album:

Congregation captures the 4 piece at their heaviest and most challenging yet. Produced by Pigs x7’s Sam Grant at Blank Studios in Newcastle, the album’s 13-tracks incorporate everything from sludge to new wave without lingering in one sound for too long –  as a result, every track is built like a brick house – strong riffs and rhythm, but plenty of space within.

Automatic, the synth-pop trio of Izzy Glaudini (synths, lead vocals), Lola Dompé (drums, vocals) and Halle Saxon-Gaines (bass) have shared new single “Skyscraper” from their upcoming second album Excess, set to be released on June 24th via Stones Throw. Pre-order here.

Searing synth lines and a head-bop beat drive this track to summer festival worthy groovy heights. You feel as if you’re living inside a 90’s movie, having just bought the latest model of Buggati and are driving down a desert road. Which only fits with the narrative that the band provide, with Halle explaining, “It’s about spending your life making money and then spending it to fill the void created by said job.” Lola adds: “Kind of like going to LA to live your dreams.” It’s flashy and sleek and will certainly get you out of your seat.

black Midi announce new album ‘Hellfire’, share new single

black midi have today announced Hellfire, their third album set to be released on July 15th via Rough Trade Records. Pre-order here. The announcement also comes alongside the release of “Welcome To Hell” and accompanying music video which tells the story of a shell shocked soldier’s excess and military discharge. The new album was produced by Marta Salogni who produced “John L” from the bands 2021 album Cavalcade.

Listen to the new single below!

Speaking about the new track Geordie Greep said:

Almost everyone depicted is a kind of scumbag. Almost everything I write is from a true thing, something I experienced and exaggerated and wrote down. I don’t believe in Hell, but all that old world folly is great for songs, I’ve always loved movies and anything else with a depiction of Hell. Dante’s Inferno. When Homer goes to Hell in the Simpsons. There’s a robot Hell in Futurama. Isaac Bashevis Singer, a Jewish writer who portrays a Satan interfering in people’s lives. There’s loads!

A press release said about the album:

Whereas the stories of Cavalcade were told in third person, Hellfire is presented in first-person and tells the tales of morally suspect characters. There are direct dramatic monologues, flamboyantly appealing to our degraded sense of right and wrong. You’re never quite sure whether to laugh at or be horrified.

Lizzie Reid announces new EP ‘Mooching’, shares new single

Glaswegian singer-songwriter Lizzie Reid has announced her new EP Mooching, set to be released on July 27th via sevenfoursixseven. She has also shared new single “How Do I Show My Love?”. This follows on from “Bible” released in March.

“I will love her in silence as you do / How does that go? / How do I show my love?” she sings over the stretching pianos, as she tries to figure out how to express herself truly. You can hear the raw emotion in every corner of the soundscape within this song, becoming not only encapsulated but absorbed in the feeling that Reid conveys. It’s a testament to her ability to communicate so much with so little backing her.

Listen to the new single below!

Speaking about the song, she said:

“This is another break up song but over time it has taken on new meaning from its original intention. Over the past few years life has been pretty harsh for a lot of people and when I sing this song it makes me feel how hard it has been to stay connected and express my feelings for certain people I care about. I find it hard at the best of times to communicate properly in a way that I would like but that can feel impossible when times are hard and people are forced to be apart.”
