Sister Lucy releases new single “Best At Being Sad”

Sister Lucy aka Abi Sinclair has shared “Best At Being Sad“, the latest single from her upcoming debut EP Big Girl Pants, set to be released on November 17th. This follows on from “Big Kid” and “Dream“, released earlier in the year.

Sinclair once again delivers another ballad that both pays homage to her influences whilst defining a sound of her own. She finds a perfect balance in rawness and captivating production aesthetics. The chugging riff and slow-stomping beat saunter the track along with a sultry breeze as Sinclair revels in her own lack of self-confidence. ” I can’t help what you make me do / I can’t help that you hate me too”, bringing her own self doubt to life, trying to reason with it as best she can. One of indie’s next great songwriters is on the cusp of greatness and her name is Sister Lucy.

Speaking about the track Sinclair said:

“The Best At Being Sad single is my internal monologue with unhappiness – The lyrics are self-mocking, cruel and impatient, I wanted to create a personification of sadness.”

Sister Lucy shares new single “Big Kid”

Abi Sinclair aka Sister Lucy has shared new single “Big Kid“, the follow up to debut single “Dream“. Both singles will appear on her debut EP Big Girl Pants, out in November. The South-East London songwriter will also headline Shacklewell Arms, London on Wednesday 10th of November.

On “Big Kid” Sinclair embraces the challenge of ageing whilst still trying to hold on youth. She transitions from the playful opening singing of “Big Girl Pants drying in the breeze” to a more assuredly melancholy chorus, eventually evolving into a symphony of guitars and melodies. Once again embracing her inner Angel Olsen, especially during the bridge that evokes the same aesthetics that were found all over her 2016 release My Woman. There’s a playfulness that Sinclair brings to the new single that is simultaneously joyous and captivating.

Speaking about the track Sinclair said:

“The phrase Big Kid describes my permanent state of existence and my need for daily escapism” – “It’s my nostalgia for childhood simplicity and the longing to break out of mundane adulthood.”

Sister Lucy shares debut single “Dream”

Sister Lucy aka Abi Sinclair has today shared her debut single “Dream”, the first from her upcoming EP set to be released later in the year. The South-London based singer-songwriter is also known for her video and photography collaborations with the likes of Semi Precious, Krush Puppies, Hussy, Thallo, Bat and Ball and OiVa Voi.

On her debut single Sister Lucy evokes the likes of early Angel Olsen and soccer mommy through her underlying grunge aesthetics and slow-chugging chord progressions. Her insecurities surround her, “I only wanted to be wanted, to be good enough”, feeling as though she can never quite be the person she’s supposed to be. “You still dream, when i’m here” she declares on the chorus and it’s this devastating line of realisation that makes Sister Lucy’s debut single so captivating. What a way to mark your debut.
